UN Fetishness

Over the nine weeks of the UN’s founding conference in San Francisco, participants consumed seventy-eight tons—a half-million sheets—of paper per day, propelling a fetish that led Canada’s Lester Pearson, an early leader of the United Nations, to describe that organization in as“drowning in its own words and suffocating in its own documents.”
